Peruvian Poke Is Where It's At!

There's a new poke on the block and I'm pretty obsessed with it! My fav chef Ricardo Zarate, who you might know from his previous places - Picca, Mo-Chica, Paiche, Once, loads of pop-ups, etc. - has a new fast casual on the market called Mamacita Cantina!

While you do have to brave the hordes of tourists at Hollywood & Highland just to enjoy this, know this. He's made his restaurant so instagrammable - your photos are going to be all the rage. From the beautifully decked out pop art booths, to the rustic multi-colored wood chairs, to the "pink drink" (because everyone loves a good pink drink) he's thought of everything to make his food stand out just that much more. There's even a whole photobooth wall right outside!

But aside from the pomp and flourish, the food is still that outstanding Zarate flavor we've all come to love. One bite of the tiradito takes me right back to doing leche de tigre shots opening night of Picca. The parrillada skirt steak is tender and flavorful, and the "jerky beets" are worthy of fighting over.

That said - there's one dish that's going to keep me coming back for seconds, and thirds, and fourths... I even convinced my family to go watch Beauty & the Beast at the El Capitan just so we could eat this afterwards for lunch.

Peruvian Poke Ceviche.

Yep. Just let those words run over your tongue as you imagine all of those delicious flavors. It's got a little bit of everything, sweet, spice, fresh, umami, and of course those giant corn kernels. Trust me. It's worth ordering your own bowl because once you try it, you're not going to want to share!

So do yourself a favor and check out Mamacita Cantina the next time you happen to find yourself wanting to hit up Dave & Busters for some late night gaming. Or you know are rushing to a premiere and only have a little bit of time to grab a bite!
